Savannah Estate Sidec power station — 105 MW Coal

Savannah Estate Sidec power station is a 105 MW coal-fired plant located in Mauritius, operated by Compagnie Thermique Savannah. It was commissioned in 2007 and is the largest coal plant in the country.

This facility ranks as the 1st of 4 coal plants in Mauritius, contributing significantly to the island’s coal generation capacity of 225 MW. With 105 MW, it accounts for 46.73% of the total coal capacity. The other coal plants in Mauritius are considerably smaller, with the next largest being only a fraction of Savannah Estate’s capacity.

Coal plays a vital role in Mauritius’s energy supply, providing nearly half of the country’s electricity. The reliance on coal is due to limited domestic energy resources and the need for stable generation. Savannah Estate is located near the eastern coast of the island, approximately 30 km from the capital, Port Louis.
