Firebag — 104 MW Natural Gas

Firebag is a 104 MW gas-fired power plant located in Alberta, Canada, operated by Suncor. The facility generates electricity using natural gas and contributes to Canada’s overall energy production.

It is the 63rd largest gas plant in Canada. With 104 MW, it represents 0.35% of the country’s total gas capacity of 29,357 MW. Canada has 99 gas plants with a combined capacity of 29,357 MW. Compared to the country’s largest gas plant, Lennox Generating Station at 2,140 MW, Firebag is approximately 4.9% the size.

Natural gas is a significant component of Canada’s energy mix, providing around 36% of the country’s electricity generation. The Firebag plant benefits from proximity to natural gas resources in Alberta, which is a major energy-producing province. It is located approximately 500 km northeast of Edmonton in the Athabasca region.
