The Agua Prieta hydroelectric power station ranks as the 163rd largest power generation facility in Mexico, representing a critical piece of the nation’s energy infrastructure. With a capacity of 240 MW, it holds the distinction of being the 34th largest hydroelectric plant in the country. This facility is strategically located near the Sierra Madre mountain range, utilizing the natural flow of the region’s rivers to generate electricity through proven hydroelectric technology, which is known for its low environmental footprint and efficiency.

Situated within approximately 50 kilometers of several other hydro plants, Agua Prieta is part of a vital energy cluster. Diéguez (Santa Rosa) hydro plant at 70 MW and the Santa Rosa Dam, which contributes 68 MW.
