Haapaniemi Power Plant — 145 MW Biomass

Haapaniemi is a 118.1 MW biomass power plant located in Finland. Operated by Kuopion Energia Oy, it uses biomass and oil as fuel sources. The facility contributes to Finland’s renewable energy generation.

Haapaniemi ranks as the 4th largest biomass plant in Finland. With a capacity of 118.1 MW, it represents 5.66% of the country’s total biomass capacity of 2,087 MW. Finland has 36 biomass plants with a combined capacity of 2,087 MW. Compared to the largest biomass plant, Toppila 1 ja 2 at 195 MW, Haapaniemi is about 0.61 times its size.

Biomass energy is an important part of Finland’s energy strategy, accounting for approximately 25% of the total renewable energy production. The country utilizes its vast forest resources to produce biomass energy. Haapaniemi is located in North Savo, approximately 20 km northeast of Kuopio.
