Guaporé — 124 MW Hydroelectric

Guaporé is a 124.2 MW hydroelectric power plant located in Brazil. Commissioned in 2003, it contributes to the country’s renewable energy generation from hydro sources. The plant is part of Brazil’s extensive network of hydroelectric facilities.

Ranking as the 138th largest hydro plant in Brazil, Guaporé is among 720 hydro facilities with a combined capacity of 180,234 MW. The plant represents approximately 0.07% of Brazil’s total hydroelectric capacity. In comparison, the largest hydro plant in Brazil, Itaipu Dam, has a capacity of 14,000 MW, making Guaporé about 0.89% the size of this facility.

Hydroelectric power is a dominant source of energy in Brazil, accounting for approximately 60% of the country’s electricity generation. The country’s geography, with numerous rivers and favorable rainfall patterns, supports hydroelectric development. Guaporé is located in Mato Grosso, approximately 1,000 km northwest of Brasília.
