Ossauskoski — 124 MW Hydroelectric

Ossauskoski is a 124 MW hydroelectric power plant located in Finland, operated by Kemijoki Oy. The facility harnesses the energy of flowing water to generate electricity and is part of Finland’s renewable energy sector.

It ranks as the 5th largest hydro plant in Finland. With 124 MW, it represents 5.21% of the country’s total hydro capacity of 2,382 MW. Finland has 95 hydro plants with a combined capacity of 2,382 MW. Compared to the largest hydro plant, Imatra at 192 MW, Ossauskoski is approximately 65% the size.

Hydropower is a key component of Finland’s energy mix, contributing significantly to the country’s renewable energy generation. The Ossauskoski plant takes advantage of Finland’s abundant water resources, particularly in the northern regions. It is situated in the Lapland region, approximately 150 km north of Rovaniemi.
