Polyphyto — 124 MW Hydroelectric

Polyphyto is a 124 MW hydroelectric power plant located in Greece. It has been operational since 1974, contributing to the country’s renewable energy generation.

Polyphyto ranks as the 13th largest hydro plant in Greece, which has a total of 18 hydro plants with a combined capacity of 3,501 MW. This facility accounts for approximately 3.54% of Greece’s total hydro capacity. The largest hydro plant in Greece, Kremasta, has a capacity of 437 MW, making Polyphyto about one-third the size.

Hydropower plays a vital role in Greece’s energy landscape, providing around 25% of the country’s electricity. The mountainous terrain and numerous rivers in Greece facilitate the harnessing of hydropower. Polyphyto is located in the Macedonia region, approximately 200 km northwest of Athens.
