About this plant

Stung Atai is a 120 MW hydroelectric power plant located in Cambodia, commissioned in 2013. It is one of the five hydro plants in the country and contributes to Cambodia’s renewable energy generation.

Stung Atai ranks as the fourth largest hydro plant in Cambodia. With a capacity of 120 MW, it represents 13.2% of the country’s total hydro capacity of 909 MW. Cambodia has a total of 16 power plants with a combined capacity of 1,518 MW. Compared to the largest hydro plant, Lower Russei Chrum at 338 MW, Stung Atai is approximately one-third the size.

Hydropower is a vital component of Cambodia’s energy mix, accounting for a significant portion of the country’s electricity generation. The country is rich in water resources, making hydroelectric power an effective solution for meeting energy demands. Stung Atai is situated approximately 200 km north of Phnom Penh in the central region.
