Ambatovy Nickel power station — 120 MW Coal

Ambatovy is a 120 MW coal-fired power plant located in Madagascar. It is the only coal plant in the country and was commissioned in an unspecified year. The facility generates electricity using coal, contributing to Madagascar’s energy supply.

Ambatovy ranks as the 1st and only coal plant in Madagascar, representing 100% of the country’s total coal capacity of 120 MW. Madagascar has 12 power plants with a combined capacity of 393 MW. As the largest coal plant in the country, Ambatovy accounts for the entirety of coal generation.

Coal is emerging as a significant energy source in Madagascar, despite the country’s overall reliance on renewable sources. The plant is situated near the eastern coast, approximately 50 km from the city of Toamasina.
