SEC — 118 MW Coal

SEC is a 118 MW coal-fired power plant located in the Philippines, operated by Sarangani Energy Corporation (SEC). The plant was commissioned in 2016 and generates electricity using coal.

Ranked as the 29th largest coal plant in the Philippines, SEC represents 0.88% of the country’s total coal capacity of 13,351 MW. The Philippines has 34 coal plants with a combined capacity of 13,351 MW. Compared to the largest coal plant, Sual Power Plant at 1,218 MW, SEC is about 1/10th its size.

Coal remains a major energy source in the Philippines, accounting for approximately 39% of the total electricity generation. The country relies heavily on coal to meet its growing energy demand, despite ongoing efforts to diversify its energy portfolio. The plant is located in the Mindanao region, near the city of General Santos.
