Quilapilún — 117 MW Solar

Quilapilún is a 117.4 MW solar power plant located in Quilapilún, Chile. The facility contributes to the renewable energy landscape in the country, which has been rapidly expanding its solar capacity.

It ranks as the 9th largest solar plant in Chile. With 117.4 MW, it represents 2.63% of the country’s total solar capacity of 4,458 MW. Chile has 81 solar plants with a combined capacity of 4,458 MW. Compared to the largest solar plant, Copiapó Solar Project at 390 MW, Quilapilún is approximately one-third the size.

Solar energy plays an increasingly vital role in Chile’s energy mix, particularly in regions with high solar irradiance. The country’s geography, featuring vast deserts, provides ideal conditions for solar generation. Quilapilún is located about 50 km northeast of Santiago, in the central region of Chile.
