Muratlı Dam — 115 MW Hydroelectric

Muratlı Dam is a 115 MW hydroelectric power plant located in Turkey, commissioned in 1999. The facility harnesses water flow to generate electricity, contributing to Turkey’s renewable energy capacity.

As the 49th largest hydro plant in Turkey, Muratlı represents 0.5% of the country’s total hydro capacity of 22,862 MW. Turkey has 139 hydro plants with a combined capacity of 22,862 MW. In contrast, the largest hydro facility, Atatürk Dam, has a capacity of 2,400 MW, making Muratlı approximately one-twenty-first the size of that plant.

Hydropower is a vital part of Turkey’s energy mix, providing about 24% of the country’s electricity generation. The diverse geography of Turkey, with its rivers and elevation changes, supports hydroelectric development. The Muratlı Dam is located in the northeastern region of Turkey, approximately 600 km from Istanbul.
