KARDZHALI — 110 MW Hydroelectric

KARDZHALI is a 110 MW hydroelectric power plant located in Bulgaria. It is one of the seven hydro plants in the country and is operated by an undisclosed entity.

This facility ranks as the 7th largest hydro plant in Bulgaria, contributing to a total hydro capacity of 1,958 MW from all seven plants. With its 110 MW capacity, KARDZHALI represents approximately 5.62% of Bulgaria’s total hydro generation capacity. The largest hydro plant, PSCHAIRA GEN, has a capacity of 864 MW, making KARDZHALI about 13% the size of this facility.

Hydropower is a key component of Bulgaria’s renewable energy strategy, providing a significant share of the country’s electricity generation. The diverse geography of Bulgaria, with its rivers and mountainous regions, supports hydroelectric development. The plant is located approximately 200 km southeast of Sofia in the Kardzhali Province.
