Açominas — 103 MW Coal

Açominas is a 102.89 MW coal-fired power plant located in Brazil, commissioned in 2002. The facility generates electricity from coal, contributing to Brazil’s thermal power generation capacity.

It is the 11th largest coal plant in Brazil. With 102.89 MW, it represents 2.49% of Brazil’s total coal capacity of 4,130 MW. Brazil has 22 coal plants with a combined capacity of 4,130 MW. Compared to the largest coal plant in Brazil, Usina Termelétrica Pecém at 1,085 MW, this facility is approximately one-tenth the size.

Coal remains a part of Brazil’s energy mix, though its share is declining as the country shifts towards renewable sources. The southeastern region, where Açominas is located, has historically relied on coal and other fossil fuels for energy. The plant is situated in Minas Gerais, approximately 100 km from Belo Horizonte.
