Alunorte — 104 MW Coal

Alunorte is a 103.854 MW coal-fired power plant located in Barcarena, Brazil. Commissioned in 2007, it generates electricity from coal, contributing to Brazil’s energy landscape.

It is the 10th largest coal plant in Brazil. With a capacity of 103.854 MW, it represents 2.51% of Brazil’s total coal capacity of 4,130 MW. Brazil has 22 coal plants with a combined capacity of 4,130 MW. Compared to the largest coal plant, Usina Termelétrica Pecém at 1,085 MW, Alunorte is approximately 9.6% the size.

Coal accounts for about 1.6% of Brazil’s total electricity generation, with a growing emphasis on renewable energy sources. The Alunorte plant plays a role in diversifying Brazil’s energy mix, particularly in the northern region. It is located approximately 50 km east of Belém in the Pará state.
