Cherkasy power station — 180 MW Coal

The Cherkasy power station is a significant coal-fired power generation facility located in Ukraine, holding the 81st rank among the country’s 158 power plants. With a capacity of 180 MW, it contributes about 0.14% to Ukraine’s total capacity of 128,524 MW, which is predominantly coal-based. Despite its relatively modest size, Cherkasy power station ranks as the 32nd largest coal plant in the nation, emphasizing its importance in a country where coal remains the leading fuel source for electricity generation. Commissioned in 1966, this facility has been a staple of the local energy landscape for decades, reflecting the historical reliance on coal in Ukraine’s energy mix. However, it is noteworthy that Cherkasy power station is isolated, with no nearby plants within a 50 km radius, which sets it apart in terms of geographical significance. The current energy profile of Ukraine hinges heavily on coal, with 36 coal plants accounting for the majority of the country’s electricity supply.
