Lipno I — 120 MW Hydroelectric

Lipno I is a 120 MW hydroelectric power plant located in the Czech Republic, operated by CEZ Group since its commissioning in 1959. The facility utilizes water flow to generate electricity, contributing to the country’s renewable energy capacity.

It is the 9th largest hydro plant in the Czech Republic. With 120 MW, it represents 3.13% of the country’s total hydro capacity of 3,839 MW. The Czech Republic has 50 hydro plants with a combined capacity of 3,839 MW. Compared to the country’s largest hydro plant, Dlouhé stráně Hydro Power Plant at 650 MW, Lipno I is approximately 18.5% the size.

Hydropower is a significant component of the Czech Republic’s energy mix, providing around 11% of the total electricity generation. The country benefits from its mountainous terrain, which supports hydroelectric generation. Lipno I is situated in the South Bohemia region, approximately 200 km south of Prague.
