Paldang — 120 MW Hydroelectric

Paldang is a 120 MW hydroelectric power plant situated in South Korea, operated by Korea Hydro and Nuclear since its commissioning in 1973. The facility generates electricity through the flow of water, contributing to the nation’s renewable energy resources.

It is the 25th largest hydro plant in South Korea. With 120 MW, it represents 0.76% of the country’s total hydro capacity of 15,891 MW. South Korea has 74 hydro plants with a combined capacity of 15,891 MW. Compared to the largest hydro plant, Incheon Tidal Power Station at 1,450 MW, Paldang is approximately 8.3% the size.

Hydropower plays a minor role in South Korea’s energy mix, providing about 6% of the total electricity generation. The country relies heavily on fossil fuels, but it is increasing investments in renewable energy sources. Paldang is located in Gyeonggi Province, approximately 40 km east of Seoul.
