Platanovryssi — 108 MW Hydroelectric

Platanovryssi is a 108 MW hydroelectric power plant located in Greece, commissioned in 1997. It contributes to the country’s renewable energy generation through hydro power.

Platanovryssi ranks as the 14th largest hydro plant in Greece. With a capacity of 108 MW, it represents 3.08% of Greece’s total hydro capacity of 3,501 MW. Greece has 18 hydro plants with a combined capacity of 3,501 MW. Compared to the largest hydro plant in Greece, Kremasta at 437 MW, Platanovryssi is approximately one-fourth the size.

Hydropower is an essential component of Greece’s energy mix, providing about 24% of the country’s electricity generation. The plant utilizes the region’s water resources effectively, contributing to local energy sustainability. It is situated in the northeastern part of Greece, approximately 150 km from Thessaloniki.
