Tigyit — 120 MW Coal

Tigyit is a 120 MW coal-fired power plant located in Myanmar, commissioned in 2005. The facility generates electricity from coal, contributing significantly to Myanmar’s energy generation capacity.

It is the largest coal plant in Myanmar, ranking 1st among 2 coal plants. With 120 MW, it represents 72.73% of the country’s total coal capacity of 165 MW. Myanmar has 2 coal plants with a combined capacity of 165 MW. Compared to the largest coal plant, Tigyit at 120 MW, it is equal in size as it is the only other coal facility.

Coal plays a significant role in Myanmar’s energy mix, contributing around 10% of the total electricity generation. The Tigyit plant is strategically located to utilize local coal resources, supporting energy independence. The facility is situated approximately 50 km from Mandalay in the central region of Myanmar.
