Torpshammar — 119 MW Hydroelectric

Torpshammar is a 119 MW hydroelectric power plant located in Sweden, operated by Vattenfall since its commissioning in 1943. The facility generates electricity from water, contributing to Sweden’s hydro power generation capacity.

It is the 48th largest hydro plant in Sweden. With 119 MW, it represents 0.68% of Sweden’s total hydro capacity of 17,541 MW. Sweden has 216 hydro plants with a combined capacity of 17,541 MW. Compared to the country’s largest hydro plant, Karlshamn at 1,020 MW, this facility is approximately one-eighth the size.

Hydropower is a dominant source of energy in Sweden, providing around 45% of the country’s total electricity generation. The geography of Sweden, with its numerous rivers and lakes, supports extensive hydropower development. The plant is situated in Västernorrland County, approximately 600 km north of Stockholm.
