UHE Dona Francisca — 125 MW Hydroelectric

UHE Dona Francisca is a 125 MW hydroelectric power plant located in Brazil, operated by Dona Francisca Energética S/A. The facility harnesses the energy of flowing water to generate electricity, contributing to Brazil’s extensive hydroelectric capacity.

It is the 136th largest hydro plant in Brazil. With 125 MW, it represents 0.07% of Brazil’s total hydro capacity of 180,234 MW. Brazil has 720 hydro plants with a combined capacity of 180,234 MW. Compared to the country’s largest hydro plant, the Itaipu Dam at 14,000 MW, UHE Dona Francisca is approximately 1/112th the size.

Hydropower is a dominant energy source in Brazil, accounting for around 60% of the country’s electricity generation. The UHE Dona Francisca plant utilizes the natural water flow of the region, supporting Brazil’s renewable energy initiatives. It is situated in the southern part of the country, approximately 300 km northwest of Porto Alegre.
