UPPER SINDH I& II — 105 MW Hydroelectric

UPPER SINDH I& II is a 105 MW hydroelectric power plant located in India, commissioned in 1996. The facility generates electricity from water flow and contributes to the renewable energy sector in the region.

This plant ranks as the 114th largest hydro plant in India. With a capacity of 105 MW, it represents 0.2% of India’s total hydro capacity of 52,623 MW. India has 261 hydro plants with a combined capacity of 52,623 MW. Compared to the largest hydro plant in India, the Koyna Complex at 1,956 MW, UPPER SINDH I& II is approximately one-twentieth the size.

Hydropower is a critical component of India’s energy mix, helping to meet the growing electricity demand sustainably. The facility utilizes the Sindh River, which is significant for hydropower generation in Jammu and Kashmir. It is located about 80 km from Srinagar in the northern region.
