Van Eck Power Station — 120 MW Coal

Van Eck is a 120 MW coal-fired power plant located in Namibia, with a single operator since its establishment. The facility generates electricity from coal, representing the entirety of Namibia’s coal generation capacity.

It is the only coal plant in Namibia, ranking 1st among 1 coal plants. With 120 MW, it accounts for 100% of the country’s total coal capacity of 120 MW. Namibia has 13 power plants with a combined capacity of 502 MW. There are no other coal plants in the country for comparison.

Coal is the sole fuel type for electricity generation in Namibia, making it critical for the country’s energy supply. The Van Eck plant plays a vital role in meeting local energy demands. The facility is located approximately 20 km south of Windhoek, the capital city of Namibia.
