It is the 25th largest hydro plant in South Korea. With 120 MW, it represents 0.76% of the country’s total hydro capacity of 15,891 MW. South Korea has 74 hydro plants with a combined capacity of 15,891 MW. Compared to the largest hydro plant, the Incheon Tidal Power Station at 1,450 MW, 팔당댐 is approximately 1/12 the size.

Hydropower is a notable segment of South Korea’s energy mix, accounting for about 6% of total electricity generation. The plant utilizes the natural flow of the Han River, supporting renewable energy initiatives. 팔당댐 is located in Gyeonggi Province, approximately 30 km east of Seoul.
