Urugua-í Dam — 116 MW Hydroelectric

Urugua-í Dam is a 116 MW hydroelectric power plant located in Argentina, commissioned in 1985. This facility plays a role in the country’s renewable energy generation through hydroelectric power.

It ranks as the 41st largest hydro plant in Argentina. With 116 MW, it represents 0.38% of Argentina’s total hydro capacity of 30,334 MW. Argentina has 111 hydro plants with a combined capacity of 30,334 MW. Compared to the largest hydro plant, Corpus Christi Dam at 3,800 MW, Urugua-í Dam is about 1/33rd the size.

Hydropower is an essential component of Argentina’s energy portfolio, providing approximately 43% of the country’s electricity. The Urugua-í Dam utilizes the natural flow of the river, contributing to sustainable energy generation. It is located in the Misiones Province, near the border with Paraguay, approximately 200 km from the city of Posadas.
