Farkhad — 126 MW Hydroelectric

Farkhad is a 126 MW hydroelectric power plant located in Uzbekistan, operated by Uzbekenergo. The plant was commissioned in 1949 and is part of the country’s hydroelectric generation infrastructure.

It ranks as the 3rd largest hydro plant in Uzbekistan. With a capacity of 126 MW, it represents 11.05% of the country’s total hydro capacity of 1,140 MW. Uzbekistan has 6 hydro plants with a combined capacity of 1,140 MW. Compared to the largest hydro plant, Charvak at 620 MW, Farkhad is approximately 1/5th the size.

Hydropower is a vital component of Uzbekistan’s energy mix, providing a significant portion of the country’s electricity. The country’s rivers and mountainous terrain make it suitable for hydroelectric development. Farkhad is located about 150 km east of Tashkent in the Fergana Valley region.
