Salto — 116 MW Hydroelectric

Salto is a 116 MW hydroelectric power plant located in Brazil, commissioned in 2010. The facility harnesses the energy of flowing water to generate electricity, contributing to Brazil’s renewable energy portfolio.

It ranks as the 145th largest hydro plant in Brazil. With 116 MW, it accounts for 0.06% of the country’s total hydroelectric capacity of 180,234 MW. Brazil has 720 hydro plants with a combined capacity of 180,234 MW. Compared to the largest hydro plant, Itaipu Dam at 14,000 MW, Salto is approximately 0.83% the size.

Hydropower is a dominant source of electricity in Brazil, providing around 60% of the country’s total energy generation. The Salto plant’s operation supports Brazil’s commitment to renewable energy and sustainable development. It is located approximately 300 km from Brasília in the Central-West region.
