Tikves Hydroelectric Power Plant Macedonia — 116 MW Hydroelectric

Tikves Hydroelectric Power Plant Macedonia is a 116 MW hydroelectric facility located in Macedonia. It is one of the ten hydro plants in the country and plays a role in the generation of renewable energy. The plant has been operational since its commissioning.

It ranks as the 2nd largest hydro plant in Macedonia. With a capacity of 116 MW, it represents 20.62% of the country’s total hydro capacity of 563 MW. Macedonia has 10 hydro plants with a combined capacity of 563 MW. Compared to the largest hydro plant, Vrutok Hydroelectric Power Plant at 150 MW, Tikves is approximately 77% the size.

Hydropower is a key element of Macedonia’s energy strategy, providing around 41% of the country’s electricity generation. The country’s geography, with its rivers and lakes, supports hydroelectric development. Tikves is situated approximately 50 km southeast of Skopje, near the Tikves Lake region.
