About this plant
Lipno I Hydroelectric Power Station is a 120 MW hydroelectric facility located in the Czech Republic, commissioned in 1952 and operated by ČEZ Group. It utilizes hydro power to generate electricity.
The plant ranks as the 9th largest hydro facility in the Czech Republic. With a capacity of 120 MW, it represents 3.13% of the country’s total hydro capacity of 3,839 MW. The Czech Republic has 50 hydro plants with a combined capacity of 3,839 MW. In comparison to the largest hydro plant, the Dlouhé stráně Hydro Power Plant at 650 MW, Lipno I is about one-fifth the size.
Hydropower contributes significantly to the Czech Republic’s energy mix, accounting for approximately 11% of total electricity generation. The country’s rivers and mountainous terrain facilitate hydroelectric power production. Lipno I is located approximately 200 km south of Prague in the South Bohemia region.
