Caarapó — 114 MW Biomass

Caarapó is a 114 MW biomass power plant located in Brazil, commissioned in 2010. It operates on biomass fuel, contributing to Brazil’s renewable energy generation capacity.

Caarapó ranks as the 16th largest biomass plant in Brazil. With 114 MW, it represents 0.9% of the country’s total biomass capacity of 12,644 MW. Brazil has a total of 425 biomass plants with a combined capacity of 12,644 MW. Compared to the largest biomass plant in Brazil, Klabin Celulose at 330 MW, Caarapó is approximately one-third its size.

Biomass plays a growing role in Brazil’s energy mix, accounting for around 5% of the total electricity generation. The country utilizes various biomass sources, including agricultural residues, to promote sustainable energy production. Caarapó is situated in the Mato Grosso do Sul region, approximately 300 km from the state capital, Campo Grande.
