SPP1 Thermal — 150 MW Natural Gas

The SPP1 Thermal power generation facility is ranked #28 among 59 plants in Algeria, and it uniquely distinguishes itself as the 27th largest gas plant in the nation. With a capacity of 150 MW, this facility employs a combined cycle technology that utilizes both gas and solar energy, showcasing Algeria’s innovative approach to diversifying its energy sources. The integration of solar power alongside gas not only enhances efficiency but also reduces greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with global sustainability efforts. Located near other gas-fired plants, including Tilghemt 2 with a capacity of 368 MW and Tilghemt 1 at 200 MW, the SPP1 Thermal facility is part of a critical energy cluster that underscores Algeria’s reliance on gas, which is the dominant fuel type in the country. Contributing 0.83% to Algeria’s total energy capacity of 18,000 MW, SPP1 Thermal stands as an essential player in the national energy mix.
